Making a decision that seems to be crucial for your future is hard. This is what I realised when I faced the labour market. I quickly understood that I needed further education in order to get a good job, one that I really liked and wanted. But what did I need? Difficult to answer, but I had some clues: as a social scientist, I really liked in my degree the Sociology of Organizations and the Sociology of Work. I had also started work in Political Research. Obviously, this was the direction that I wanted to follow.
Searching the web, I found this Master’s programme – the MA in Human Resource & Knowledge Management – which appealed directly to my desires. The subjects and topics matched my expectations, the organisation of the academic year sounded good and the objectives of the course were consistent with mine. I applied immediately and luckily I was successful. From then on, my life changed significantly. I moved from an industrial city (Barcelona) to a piece of English countryside in Lancaster, I made new friends, engaged in new activities but – best of all – I studied what I hoped to study.
Now that I have completed the full course I must say that this has been the best decision ever in my life. This MA has not only been a fantastic personal experience, but it has also meant the enhancement of my understanding and being. I have been able to develop my skills and abilities to grasp contemporary management and organisations in the way that I have wanted. I also had the chance to acquire a whole new way of learning. My mind is now able to question EVERYTHING, to look for new answers and to know when more complex questions have to be asked.
In conclusion, for the MA in Human Resource and Knowledge Management you have to be open-minded, thoughtful and critical, because the world is not what it looks like at first sight. If you are such a person, this is the MA that will change your life, both at the time of studying it and once you have finished it.
I now work for Hays (the sixth-largest recruitment business in the world) in Barcelona.
