MSc Finance, 2005
Country of origin: Vietnam

Before coming to Lancaster I spent two years working at Vietcombank Securities Company, the leading investment bank of Vietnam. This experience equipped me with hand-on exposure to financial markets and encouraged me to pursue further training in Finance.

Without a prior background in Finance (my undergraduate degree was in Foreign Trade Economics), I was looking for a programme with rigorous academic content. Standing out from the top business schools in the UK, with 6* research rating, Lancaster University Management School offered all that I wanted. Therefore, after proudly passing a very tough admission process for the School’s MSc in Finance programme, I came to Lancaster as a logical and obvious step.

“My one year of study in Lancaster was unforgettable and marked a turning point in my life.”

My one year of study in Lancaster was unforgettable and marked a turning point in my life. With rigorous academic training under the supervision of the world-class faculty, I had a valuable chance to reflect on what I had experienced in financial markets and formalised it into a solid theoretical background.

Of equal importance, at Lancaster I had the opportunity to work with an international cohort of very good students from different backgrounds and I established a strong network of friends. I have to say that such interactions played a pivotal role in my personal career development.

To me, the greatest thing I got out from the programme was not just the advanced knowledge and skills in finance, but the confidence built up gradually through working with the faculty - who are leading researchers in finance - and with very smart and demanding course-mates. Such confidence was the key for me to pass through all the written exams and interview process to win a full scholarship for my current PhD programme at Cranfield School of Management. I owe my present achievement to the time at Lancaster.
