Two factors shaping the world economy today are the globalisation process and rapid technological change. In this environment it is important to have not only fundamental knowledge and skills, but also be able to learn effectively and adapt to new situations fast. From this perspective the Lancaster Economics doctoral programme is exactly what I needed.
As a PhD student I had an opportunity to learn from and work with scholars renowned for their innovative approach to research. Another important aspect of the programme is the Departmental Seminar Series, a weekly forum where researchers from leading universities present and discuss their current work. The seminars provide an excellent opportunity to keep abreast of the latest developments in many fields of economics and to gain an insight into the way research is conducted in other universities.
In my view an important part of the PhD programme is not only acquiring new knowledge and skills, but also interaction and communication with members of the department. Their openness, friendliness and enthusiasm foster a supportive and creative environment which makes the years spent at Lancaster University Management School an invaluable experience for me.
