‘LUMS alumnus takes new role at Moore School of Business’

Management Learning graduate Ray Smith has recently taken up a new role as Associate Dean for Executive Education at the Moore School of Business, which is part of the University of South Carolina in the USA. Ray is also a member of the Lancaster University Management School Advisory Board. LUMS took the opportunity to interview Ray about his experience on Lancaster's ground-breaking MA in Management Learning (MAMLL), and on his views about executive education, when he was in Lancaster in November 2008.

In Part 1 of this video, Ray describes why he chose to take the MA in Management Learning (MAMLL) at Lancaster, and how the MA transformed his career – and his thinking.

When Ray joined one of the first cohorts of the MA in Management Learning, he was working in the NHS, in charge of organisational and management education at the Gwent Health Authority in South Wales.

For Ray, the MA in Management Learning was a tranformational experience. After graduating, he left the NHS and joined Deutsche Bank, where he introduced new models of management learning that proved successful for the bank. After several years with Deutsche Bank, Ray joined Duke University in America, as Associate Dean for Executive Education, before moving to the Moore School of Business, where he is undertaking a similar role.

In Part 2 of this video, Ray discusses the current state of executive education, management development and blended learning, and what the future might hold for executive education.
