MSc ITMOC, 2007
Country of origin: Spain
Employer: Royal Bank of Scotland

I applied to the MSc ITMOC because it offered to be a catalyst to change my career into a more managerial position within a multinational organisation. The programme was very complete in terms of areas covered and the links with companies such as SAP and Accenture presented scope for a future career in consultancy or mid-management positions. Lancaster University Management School is ranked in the top five in the UK, which is a guarantee for quality lectures and research.

My background before coming to Lancaster was very diverse. I held four years’ experience in accounting, finance, business development and sales, and I had three degrees in business administration (two from Spain and one from the UK). When I joined ITMOC I was working as Senior Sales Consultant for a leading Spanish property developer in their Manchester branch. For this reason, ITMOC meant a high risk and a new start, but I was highly motivated and knew clearly that after the year in Lancaster I would have plenty of new opportunities.

ITMOC will help you to look at organisations from a new point of view. From the start, the idea is to look at organisations as systems composed of people, processes and technology. Everything revolves around this idea throughout the course. The programme gives you the opportunity to develop other skills such as team work, research capabilities, presentation and writing capabilities. It is also a good opportunity to meet people from different countries around the world and enjoy time together. I was one of the Social Reps and really enjoyed organising different events for the class throughout the year, which provided relaxation from the busy agenda of the course.

I am currently starting a new career with The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in Edinburgh as a Business Change Analyst. I can say that all the skills and experiences gained in ITMOC have helped me to get this job. I will be working on the improvement of business processes throughout the firm by applying tested quality theories such as Six Sigma or Lean into a new setting, i.e. the banking sector.

I can say proudly that ITMOC has helped effect a 360-degree change in my career. I have applied all the theories about change management to my career. I feel excited and motivated to undertake my new career and use all the skills and knowledge gained with ITMOC in the real world.
