I went to school in Kent and so most of my friends applied for Universities in the south. However, I chose Lancaster University because it was one of the very few universities that did an Advertising course. The BA in Advertising and Marketing is academically based but provides freedom for those who want to use their creative skills as well.
I worked with Big Communications and WKD in my final year. Although client contacts were difficult at times, the opportunity to present ideas to advertising creatives proved to be extremely valuable. The whole course has helped improve my presenting skills greatly. One of the best things about the marketing course as a whole is that you get to know so many people and as a result I have made many friends.
There are difficult times as with any course, where many nights are spent working on assignments in the computer labs, but the course has been extremely beneficial overall.
As an overseas student, I was lucky enough to gain a work permit to continue working in the UK after graduating. My job is in merchandising for Marshalls Buttons and Trimmings Ltd, and I hope to work towards a more advertising-related career in the future.
