Alice Mordret
BBA European Management, 2008
Country of origin: France
Placement: GE Capital, London
Employer: UBS Wealth Management
I completed my first six-month placement on the BBA in European Management at an SME in Paris during her second year, and my second six-month placement during my final year at the headquarters of General Electric Capital Solutions in London. After graduation I decided to take a Masters degree in Paris.
The European Management programme attracted me as it provided me with the opportunity to understand the principles and strategies of business with an international focus, combined with intense practical experience. As a French native speaker I was very excited to study in Lancaster and I can now say that it was a fantastic experience which has confirmed my interest in working abroad in an international environment.
I have gained practical experiences through various internships which have enabled me to gain valuable insights into diverse business operations and strategies, and helped me to develop a range of skills which are transferable across many academic, business and cultural areas.
During my last internship of six months at the headquarters of General Electric Capital Solutions Europe, as an intern in the European Marketing Division, I contributed to the market segmentation initiative across Europe.
My work was a major factor in improving the quality of the GE customers and prospects database and has helped improved the efficiency of the sales force, specifically the lead generation process. With little supervision, I took the lead in executing and managing tasks and projects, always with great enthusiasm and teamwork. I managed to overcome demanding requests from sales, marketing and commercial excellence functions.
Lancaster University Management School offers great career opportunities to start a business life. Its employability centre is always available to help students in any area. Moreover, with many different partnerships all over the world, students are offered the possibility of studying abroad, which is nowadays essential for a global career.
In a nutshell, LUMS allowed me not only to gain academic knowledge but also to put it into practice during the placement. Thanks to its international environment I made friends from all over the world and it contributed to my personal development. I would definitely recommend LUMS to any student willing to gain academic and practical experience in a very international atmosphere.
