About the Programme
The Institute for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (IEED) has a strong track record of providing innovative programmes for businesses. The department wanted to do more to ensure they are best placed to provide cutting edge programmes and “join SMEs in their world”.
In 2008 the department decided to host an Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) - Ian Gordon. Over the the following two years he worked with IEED on our internal approach to business and our range of programmes to support entrepreneurs. Given the success that our founding EIR has had, the department has now expanded the initiative and taken on a further 20 EIR's to really push forward the diverse set of business support programmes the department offers and build them into departmental teaching and research.
Each of the EIR's is a long standing associate of the University and have all taken part in many of our flagship programmes ensuring their views on SMEs are insightful, knowledgeable and really reflect the needs of businesses.
Purpose of the Entreprenuers in Residence
The group of 21 owner-managers from around the Northwest will provide an extremely valuable asset to the department. Over the coming years the group will assit the department in a variety of ways including:
- Refining current programmes to best fit the needs of other owner-managers
- Enhance the experience of our students through activities and career guidance
- Help foster business ideas and contribute to a variety of classroom activities
- Act as ambassadors to help promote the department's business support activity
- Support the department in its undergraduate recruitment
The department is excited to work with these leading owner-managers over the next year and seeing the benefits they will bring to the department and wider SME community.
