Learning and teaching

At every level of learning and teaching, from undergraduate to PhD research projects, the department encourages direct involvement with businesses and the acquisition of work based experience.

This ensures that students are constantly able to confront theory with practice – testing and challenging assumptions for themselves and thereby gaining an exceptionally robust, realistic and sophisticated understanding of the principles of management and entrepreneurship.Staircase in new Management School building

Students are also integrated into the Institute and contribute actively to its work, adding their findings from industrial placements and projects to the IEED knowledge base and community.

Such is the degree of overlap between education and the department's other key functions that it is difficult to separate them. Student projects and research play a vital role in the delivery of business support and regional business representatives are invited as visiting speakers and are involved in the design and delivery of teaching.
