Accounting & Finance degree structure
Part I
The first year of your degree at Lancaster is designed to equip you with the essential building blocks for advanced study in accounting and finance.
Part I is therefore a preparatory course and does NOT count towards your final degree classification.
Regardless of the specific degree scheme for which you are admitted, you will be required to study THREE subjects in your first year, only one of which will be directly related to this scheme.
Why?
Lancaster's degree structure is attractive to students because it provides:
Broader range of skills
Appropriate knowledge base
Studying your chosen subject to an advanced level requires sound knowledge of the foundation disciplines underpinning that subject. First year subjects are carefully designed to ensure that the necessary building blocks for advanced study are in place.
Interesting variety
Studying a single subject full-time for a whole year could become tedious. Requiring you to study a range of subjects in your first year helps maintain high interest levels.
Three subjects in Part I
Precisely which three subjects you will study in Part I will depend partly on the degree scheme for which you are admitted, and partly on your educational background. In many cases, students have some choice over at least one of the three subjects studied.
See the individual Accounting & Finance degree programmes for further details of the subject options available.
