MSc Projects
The MSc in Operational Research and Management Science is a 12-month intensive full time course that finishes with a real consultancy study for industry, commerce or government. This lasts for about 16 weeks, from early May until late August.
These projects can be a particularly cost effective way for a company to carry out work for which it cannot find the internal resources. Naturally, these projects are considerably cheaper than a commercial consulting arrangement, although they have many of the same features. In fact our post-graduate students are technically well qualified; they all have good first degrees in a discipline with significant quantitative material and have been following a variety of courses at Lancaster in techniques, statistics, computing skills, methodology and applications of Operational Research.
The students are all supervised by a member of staff and can be based in Lancaster with visits to your organisation as necessary, or can work on site in your organisation with visits from their Lancaster supervisor as necessary to ensure the successful completion of the project.
We like to have the project briefs finalised as early as possible and certainly by Easter. In recent years we have had to turn down offers of projects from organisations which were only proposed at a late stage. More information on recent projects.
