Lancord - Customised Training Courses in Operational Research (OR)
Background
Building on our 40 years experience of providing OR training courses to industry, we are now offering short (1-3 day) OR (Operational Research) training courses, which can be designed jointly with interested organisations so as to meet their specific needs.
The modules are selected from the long established and highly praised MSc in Operational Research, the basic OR courses that the Department has run for industry-based staff for many years and the popular and effective ‘Tools for Structuring Complex Problems’. Courses cover a wide range of OR techniques, the methodology of OR, both introductory and advanced, and problem structuring approaches, including facilitation skills. All of the modules are practically based and include participatory exercises. Many of the lecturers are international authorities in their field.
The course design is very flexible. One recent client had recruited a number of staff with analytical skills but with a limited OR background. We collaborated with the organisation to design two 2-day courses concentrating on OR methodology and problem structuring approaches which were well received. Another organisation wanted to update and train staff in mathematical programming, which resulted in a successful 1-day course. In addition we offer a 3-day course on forecasting which is designed to meet the requirements for the Certificate of the Institute of Forecasting.
The courses can be delivered in-house, at Lancaster or at any other suitable location. Further details of available modules are given in the Annex.
