PhD opportunities within the LANCS Initiative
In the LANCS Initiative, the universities of Lancaster, Nottingham, Cardiff and Southampton are partnering with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) in the delivery of a £13 million investment over five years whose primary goal is to grow the UK’s research capacity in foundational OR. EPSRC’s contribution is made as a Science and Innovation award of £5.4 million. The investment will facilitate an expansion of the academic base and the training of a new generation of OR researchers. The initiative will develop networks of leading edge research activity in OR, with knowledge transfer playing a central role. As part of the research training aspect of the initiative, the Department of Management Science at Lancaster University will be offering funded places to undertake PhD study within LANCS’ principal research themes. These are

- Optimisation
- Transport
- Healthcare
- Heuristic Understanding
- Systems to build systems
