Abstract

Russ Hunt: "The social life of texts: classroom and academic genres and purloined passages"

I'm tracing the paths of some texts that find themselves wandering from one context to another, considering some attitudes about plagiarism, and looking at the ways in which the differences among classroom and academic genres (and others) leads to different constructions of the status of texts (for example, whether "plagiarized" or not) and how all that illuminates what happens as students learn to work within various new social situations: new generic conventions, most immediately.
