Undergraduate programmes in Management and Organisation
Overview
At Lancaster University we have always had flexible degree schemes that enable students to follow their main interests and to combine these with other subjects that they discover whilst at university. Thus, all first degree students register for a major subject and may also take a minor course that interests them – subject to the university timetable. It is also possible to change major subject at the end of the first year if you are qualified so to do.
The Department of Organisation, Work & Technology offers major schemes in Management and Organisation and Management and Organisation with HRM. These two schemes are also available in variants that include a year of work experience or a year of studying in the USA or Australasia on our Study Abroad option. In addition, there are joint major degrees (combined degrees) with Psychology, Sociology and American Studies. Students from other departments may also take some of our courses as minor courses.
Information is provided on these pages both for new students applying to the University and for Lancaster students who are choosing which courses to take. The Courses page links to the information available. General details of the structure of Honours Degree course at Lancaster and other admissions information are contained on the University Undergraduate Admissions page.
The staff of the Department are active writers and researchers working within a wide spectrum of organisational settings, which helps to ensure that the courses are up-to-date and relevant to the needs of students. The Department enjoys a worldwide reputation for the quality of its work. The Department, as part of the Management School, received top ratings for its research and a rating of Excellent (the highest possible) for its teaching in the most recent assessments.
We hope your time here will be enjoyable and rewarding. You are allocated to a College, which will provide support to its students, particularly in the first year. The University will do whatever is possible to assist you, within the Rules and Guidelines of the University, if you have problems, whether financial, personal or academic, provided that we are aware of these problems. You are urged to contact the Department in the first instance, but if you feel for some reason that you cannot speak to the Department, you are encouraged to contact one of the following support services available: your college office, your personal tutor, the College Senior Tutor, the Counselling Service, the Student Support Office or the Student Union Advice Centre.
If you have a problem or a question about a particular course please see your course lecturer, tutor or Part I/II Director of Studies.
