Abstract: This talk will give an introduction to the OR group at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Centre in New York State.  Two applications of OR will be discussed in detail: an application in steel production, which involves a generalization of the cutting stock problem, and an application at a major East Asian port, concerned with scheduling the movement of containers from ships to storage yards.
