Abstract: My research is focused around finding solutions to the community nurse scheduling problem - this has always been based on my own randomly generated data sets. Recently I have gained access to the scheduling data of some actual care providers in order to validate my work.

By examining the difference between what the companies believe they are doing, and what is mathematically possible, I hope to highlight what seems to be a serious lack of Operational Research skills in the industry. I will also present some of my own solutions to give an idea of how much money can be saved and service improved with the deployment of such techniques.
