Leadership for Housing

Leadership for Housing is a modular postgraduate qualification, developed in partnership with the National Housing Federation and its members, and aimed at those in senior management positions within housing associations.

It is designed to help participants develop their leadership capabilities and their knowledge of themselves as leaders.

It also draws on the latest research from inside and outside the sector so as to develop a deeper practical understanding of how organisations work and how they can be transformed.

The programme focuses on three main themes or levels; the individual, the organisation and the sector. It also allows you to work on specific leadership challenges, with the help of a personal coach.

Oona Goldsworthy"The course is all about helping us grow as people so we can lead our organisations more effectively. It’s also about building leaders of the future."

Oona Goldsworthy
Chief Executive, Bristol Community Housing Federation

Practical, work-focused learning

The five programme modules are very interactive in style, and combine academic input with discussion in action learning sets and personal coaching. The focus is highly practical, with the aim of ensuring that you can transfer your learning back into your own organisation as you progress through the programme.

Learning sets form an integral part of the programme, enabling you to work through specific work issues with a learning set made up of peers from across the sector.

Underlying the programme is the assumption that within the sector there is a great deal of existing experience and good practice that can be shared. Its real value and success therefore depends on the commitment of participants to share best practice and learn from one another. It also depends on sponsoring organisations being fully signed up to the need for change and to the value of excellent leadership.
