Partnership with GDUFS
Partnership with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) was established in 2000 by the University International Office. GDUFS students can either embark on one-year Foundation programme that will prepare them for their undergraduate studies at Lancaster University or they can join a 2+2 access programme where they will complete the first two years of their studies in China and then they transfer to LUMS Part II to complete their Bachelor degree.
2+2 access programme
2+2 students can proceed either to BSc Business Studies or BSc Accounting and Finance. Their first two years at GDUFS give them good foundation for these degrees. The curriculum includes specialised subjects with equal syllabus to LUMS Part I modules.
In their first two years the students also concentrate on improving their English language skills to achieve the entry requirements of IELTS 6.5 necessary to enter LUMS degrees. Before the GDUFS students transfer to LUMS they also complete a number of research assignments about LUMS degrees, life on the Campus and British Culture.
Every January Terry Bray, the China collaborative partnerships coordinator, visits GDUFS to give briefings to potential students. Later on in the year Terry Bray together with another colleague from Lancaster University carry out interviews with the students interested in our degrees and select the final group who join us here at Lancaster in September.
Before the students embark on their LUMS degrees, they take a four-week English for Academic Purposes course which helps them with their transition to British Academic system.
Paul Taylor, the Director of Business Studies programme developed a detailed programme description that was translated into Chinese and distributed to the students in December 2007 when Terry Bray and Dr Radka Newton from LUMS visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and met with potential students.
GDUFS has recently appointed a new programme coordinator, Mr Yang Haibo, who administers the 2+2 degree programme in China.
In 2007/8 eleven students joined LUMS on BSc Business Studies and nine students on BSc Accounting and Finance degrees.
