Associated Teaching, Learning and Assessment Strategies

Practical skills are developed by course design, coursework assessment, feedback, tutorials and seminars which endorses interactive and participative teaching.  Students are expected to display a good working knowledge of relevant case studies acquired through their independent learning and formal tuition and to be able to share and communicate and share ideas with colleagues.

Guidance is provided by staff through a tutor system for essay and dissertation preparation.  This is also an important source of feedback.

Students are expected to produce their work using modern technology making use as appropriate of word processing, graphical presentation, databases and spreadsheets. The University offers courses in IT skills, which are available to all students both where their skills are insufficient to support self-sustaining learning and where they need more specialised skills.

Support for essay working is provided through the Institute of English Language Education department with additional sessions directed specifically at the needs of students on the MA Human Resource and Knowledge Management Programme.

Assessment takes into account the ability of students to mount theoretical arguments, to collect and appraise appropriate data, to integrate findings into their arguments and to work both independently and as a group.  Assessment also is made of students’ ability to demonstrate realistic practical solutions to the problems they encounter throughout their studies. Practical as well as intellectual skills are assessed through coursework assessment, dissertation and examination.
