Students describe the project stage of the E-Business programme, and talk about their experience of working with companies. You can also view a video about Programme Content.

Project dissertation

The dissertation, worth 60 credits for the Masters degree, will be either an organisation- or research-based project following immediately after the taught programme. It will be based on the work undertaken for the host organisation or a research proposal, together with appropriate theoretical reflection depending on the nature of the project and student.

Mixed skills, culture and experience project teams of between 3 to 4 students are formed for organisation-based projects. These project teams will complete some taught assignments jointly. Each project will be supervised by a Computing and/or Management School staff member, depending on the project and project team composition. The organisation-based dissertation will comprise a joint report to the organisation and individual academic reflection.

Examples of organisation-based projects:

  • A large corporation wishes to investigate the potential for engaging lower-tier suppliers (SMEs) in a private online marketplace. This project could involve contacting suppliers (large and small) to determine the barriers and drivers to engagement, building a prototype interface and producing a business case for future development.
  • A start-up company in InfoLab has developed a new digital imaging service for delivery over mobile media (telephone and interactive TV) and wishes to explore potential markets. This project could involve contacting content providers to determine their requirements and business models, developing a demonstrator and producing a report recommending suitable markets for exploitation and business plan for raising investment funds.

The dissertation is a compulsory part of the MSc programme. Students will complete EBIN505 Research Methods in preparation for the dissertation.
