“People with knowledge of SAP are in high demand, having this on our CVs will really add value.”

SAP Alliance

Lancaster University joined SAP’s University Alliance Program in April 2006, bringing immediate benefits to the MSc in E-Business and Innovation (EBIN). The collaboration between SAP and Lancaster takes the form of the EBIN SAP Course – part of the EBIN 501 E-Business module – and a prize sponsored by SAP for the best overall EBIN student each year.

The SAP University Alliance is the largest academic/business collaboration in the world. Membership, which is by invitation only, consists of 500 universities around the world, and each year many thousands of top business and IT students gain their first hands-on experience of a real-world business management application through the program.

Martin Gollogly, SAP's UK Head of University Alliances, said: "Lancaster is sure to be a valuable and innovative member of the program. We welcome them on board and look forward to many years of exciting collaboration. Through the SAP EBIN scholarship we will also sponsor one Lancaster University student on the MSc in E-Business & Innovation (EBIN)."

The EBIN SAP course

The EBIN programme features a course which gives you hands-on experience with SAP, the market-leading Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The course forms part of the EBIN 501 E-Business module.

You will gain experience configuring a variety of modules for your own 'company' within SAP, before performing transactions which test your system. Modules covered range from the supply-side (Materials Management, MM) to the customer-facing-side (Sales and Distribution, SD) and financials (Financial Accounting, FI).

SAP is the world’s leading provider of business software solutions. More than 26,150 customers in over 120 countries run more than 88,700 installations of SAP® software - from distinct solutions for small and midsize businesses to enterprise-scale suite solutions for global organisations.

Powered by the SAP NetWeaver™ platform to drive innovation and enable business change, mySAP™ Business Suite solutions are helping enterprises around the world improve customer relationships, enhance partner collaboration and create efficiencies across their supply chains and business operations.

SAP industry solutions support the business processes of more than 25 industry segments, including high tech, retail, public sector and financial services.

The SAP course demonstrates the managerial benefits of Business Process Integration and considers the pros and cons of off-the-shelf applications. Few Masters programmes in the UK offer this very marketable skill. During the first year of the course students commented on the practical value of the material and the impact it had on employability.

Together with practical skills, the course also provides a number of academic learning opportunities for you while you study at Lancaster. For example, you will be encouraged to critically reflect on your experiences and evaluate enterprise systems from a user-perspective. In other parts of the programme, you have the opportunity to relate your experiences with ERP to the wider theory, including: process modelling, business process re-engineering, implementing information systems and the management of change.
