Entry requirements
Entry to the ITMOC programme is highly competitive. To be considered for admission you will need to have a good honours degree (a minimum of 2:1) or the equivalent grade point average (a GPA of at least 3.2) from a recognised university. We also accept an equivalent professional qualification.
Subject of first degree
The programme is open to graduates of any discipline: your first degree does not need to be either in a management area, or in a computing or IT-related subject, though many of those who join the programme do come from those or other social science disciplines.
Graduates from arts and humanities backgrounds have also studied very successfully on the programme – what matters most is your intellectual ability and your strong interest in the subjects covered in the programme.
Work experience
Because of the interactive nature of the MSc ITMOC, where you are asked to reflect on the organisational implications of technologies, applications from students with relevant work experience are particularly welcome.
Many of those who join the programme are already several years into their careers – typically working in an IT- or management-related context. However, we also admit some recent graduates who have the profile and personality to both contribute to, and benefit from, the programme.
English language requirements
Studying on the programme requires excellent written and spoken English skills. If your first degree was not taught in English, you will need to provide evidence of your English language ability, normally in the form of a ibTOEFL or an IELTS score.
The minimum requirements are:
- an IELTS score of 7.0 or above (with a score of at least 6.0 in each element), or
- a ibTOEFL score of at least 100
(*UK Borders Agency requirements include minimum scores in the TOEFL test)
If you achieve slightly lower scores than this (IELTS 6.5 or ibTOEFL 93), you may be offered a place on condition that you undertake the four-week English for Academic Purposes (Study Skills) course organised through the University‘s Department of Linguistics and English Language.
