MA Management Learning and Leadership

Are you:

  • Developing or running leadership or management development programmes?
  • A leader or manager, wanting to take a developmental approach to yourself, your organisation or your staff?
  • Coaching senior teams to develop their leadership capabilities?
  • Moving into a strategic organisation development role?
  • An independent consultant wanting to learn with peers?

Do you want an active, engaged learning process to develop your practice alongside your ideas in which you specify your learning agendas – with challenging support from colleagues and tutors – and shape the course content?

The MA in Management Learning & Leadership (MAMLL) is a two-year part-time Masters programme run by the Department of Management Learning and Leadership.

It's an executive programme that is highly innovative in design: it uses a combination of face-to-face residential workshops, regular action-learning sets and networked learning (including online communication) to develop a lively and challenging learning community.

‘Leadership and change’ was the theme of a discussion event organised by the Department of Management Learning and Leadership. The event was a great opportunity for applicants to get a feel for what studying management learning at Lancaster will be like, and to talk to students, alumni and faculty to get their impressions.

Who does it attract?

Studying on the MA is a development opportunity for those working or consulting on management, leadership or organisational development, related human resource issues, or working in a developmental way as a line leader or manager.

It is intended for those who have a few years’ experience in these activities and are currently working within them.

The programme is equally relevant to those working in private or public sector organisations, education, training and development organisations, and consultancies (both large and small), from the ‘big four’ through to sole traders.

Learning organisation

The programme offers you the opportunity to develop your understanding and your practice of management and leadership learning and development, whatever the context or organisational learning setting in which you work.

The majority of MAMLL participants are UK-based, but it also attracts international participants who in the past have come from France, Denmark, Austria, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Africa, Malaysia, the US and Canada. Participants need to attend the residential workshops, but the rest of the programme can be undertaken virtually.

Benefits for the employer

The programme develops participants' competence to apply critically a range of contextually appropriate theories, concepts and models to practical leadership and organisational development issues. It assists participants in their ability to facilitate individual and organisational change, development and learning in variety of operational, managerial and strategic contexts.
