Project Management
Module leader: Steve Barron
Duration and timing: total of 24 hours, Summer Term
Overview
A project can quickly become extremely complex since project management is about the management of change and, within organisations, change can take many shapes and forms. The process of managing projects needs to unpick this complexity. To this end, project managers need to be aware of the related environment and the people involved and have some appropriate management techniques for dealing with complex issues.
This elective shows you how to participate effectively in the management of projects. This will include an introduction to the project lifecycle, generic features of projects and techniques applicable to effective project planning and delivery. It will explore what effective project management is and why, and then show how project management can be effectively applied to change programmes. The principal areas covered are: identifying project scope, developing a useful plan, delivering the project, and project closure and audit.
Although applying project management techniques can present extreme challenges due to the working environment, in this elective you will have an opportunity to practise your project management skills in a commercially safe environment.
