Advanced Strategic Thinking
Module leader: Paul Ferguson
Duration and timing: total of 24 hours, Summer Term
Overview
This elective aims to help students who aspire to become consultants to understand both the theoretical underpinnings of the analytical process and the practical side of proposing actions which the organisation might take.
There are no formal lectures in this course. Instead, through a series of cases you are presented with a number of complex and strategically important situations. This gives you practice in analysing and evaluating possible approaches and reaching reasoned decisions as to a course of action. You will be learning not only to identify what theory is appropriate to structure, evaluate and recommend change in such situations but also to present your ideas to groups of people who need to be persuaded that the course of action proposed is the right one.
The teaching style is highly participative, involving class debates and presentations that involve every member of the class. The assessment tests both your theoretical understanding of the case and also your tactical awareness as a consultant.
