MBA entry requirements

In our admissions process we aim to select MBA students with a proven track record of exceptional achievement and ability. The criteria below are what we normally look for as a minimum: wherever possible we aim to exceed them.

Admissions criteria

The admissions requirements for all applicants to the Lancaster MBA are:

  • a good first degree (please enclose a copy of your degree certificate and transcript with your application)
  • have a minimum of three years work experience since graduation. Strong preference will given to those who can demonstrate clearly that they have held significant managerial resposibilities.
  • two good references, usually from your current employer and someone who knows your academic ability

English language requirements

In addition, if your degree is not from a recognised UK university and your first language is not English, you will need to:

  • achieve a GMAT score of 600 or above balanced across verbal, written and quantitative elements. Candidates who achieve less than 4.5 on the analytical writing element may be asked to successfully complete a futher Lancaster Admissions Essay. In special circumstances, a candidate with other expectional qualities may be admitted when their GMAT score is marginally below 600 but demonstrates a good standard on the quantitative element, successfuly completes a Lancasters Admissions Essay, and meets other minimum language requirements (IELTS, TOEFL).
  • demonstrate your English language proficiency, preferably with an IELTS score of 7.0 or above, or alternatively with a TOEFL score of 250 or above (computer-based test) or 100 (internet-based test)

If you have a non-standard background and would like advice about your suitability please contact the MBA office.

If you meet the academic qualifications and English language requirements above but do not have sufficient work experience, you may like to consider the MSc in Management programme.

Graduate Profiles

The Lancaster MBA Career Management Programme gave me opportunities to understand myself better, and get a sense of my personal priorities, values and the types of jobs I really want to do.
