Learning Through Action: MBA Challenges

At LUMS we believe that for you to develop, you need to be challenged and stretched. We do this through the three MBA Challenges, where you will be asked to use your experience and knowledge from the programme to solve real issues for demanding clients.

Sibasish Sinha"The Lancaster MBA is a compelling mix of rich academic content laced with 'live' consulting projects: this practice-based approach sets LUMS apart from other business schools."

Three consulting challenges

While other programmes may give you a chance to get out into the 'real world' on summer projects, on the Lancaster MBA we go further – finding three consulting opportunities – or 'Challenges' – for you so that you are engaged in client-based project work from the start of the MBA.

The Challenges allow you to reflect on how your own knowledge and skills, as a manager, leader and team player, cope with the demands of different organisational projects. We support you in this with consultancy training and mentoring from experienced consultants.

You will, of course, be adding to your organisational experience, gaining insights into previously unfamiliar sectors, and so improving your CV.

The Consultancy Challenge

Consultancy Challenge videosIn February you receive an intensive introduction to consultancy and soft skills tool-kits, and then in small teams tackle a focused consultancy assignment, within a tight time-frame. The clients are typically medium-sized enterprises, based in the North West and requiring solutions to a range of business issues.   >> more information

The project experience

Mitul Dave"My summer project was with British Vita, a global leader in polyurethane foam manufacturing. It involved looking at supply chain dynamics within the organisation and influencing strategy by employing collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment techniques. The project was a success – and I, along with my project partner, was able to demonstrate improvements to the CEO through a pilot programme running on our tailor-made recommendations."
