Assessment

Student in Cartmel coffee barThe MSc in Management is composed of a total of 180 credits, distributed across the 14 modules which make up the programme. The largest single element is the Research Project, which is weighted at 25% of the total degree. The remaining 75% weighting is spread evenly across the other 13 modules of the programme.

Assessment methods

The courses which make up the programme are assessed using various forms of assessment, and most use more than one type. This enables you to demonstrate your capability in different ways – for example, working both individually and in teams.

Methods used include formal examinations, individual coursework essays and assignments, group-based reports and presentations, business plans and case study analysis. For details of the assessment methods for individual modules, please see the module descriptions listed under programme content.

Study Abroad variants

Those who choose to undertake part of the programme at one of our European partner institutions will be assessed either by the staff of that host institution or by Lancaster staff, depending on the arrangements made with the particular exchange scheme partner. For further details on each scheme, and its timings, etc, see Study Abroad.

Progression to research project

To progress to the final module, the research project, students need to achieve a minimum mark of 50% in each of the preceding modules and a combined overall mark for the taught element of 50%.

If a student fails to achieve either or both of the above, they will not complete the Research Project and may be considered for a Postgraduate Diploma in Business.
