Economics

This module aims to make students aware of how the micro- and macro-economic environment can affect business behaviour. The module is very applied, and so by the end of it you will:

  • understand how markets operate
  • have sufficient knowledge to understand and analyse the financial press and government economic reports
  • be able to analyse economic problems using the skills and knowledge acquired.

Lectures cover the following areas: the market system; the firm; competition between the few; monopoly and market power; market failure and government intervention; an overview of the macro-economy; the government and the macro-economy; money and the economy; inflation and unemployment; the international economy.

Course work assessment (two essays) 40%
