New Venture Planning

The module has a number of aims:

  • to examine different aspects of business planning and the crucial interrelationship between different elements of a business plan
  • to develop your ability to assess and critique a business plan
  • to explore the essential elements and pitfalls surrounding new venture creation within the context of business planning
  • to introduce the process of conceptualising and preparing an outline plan for the launch of an entrepreneurial venture

Different aspects of business planning will be presented via a series of lectures. To complement these, weekly tutorials will be used. In the first part of the module, you will work on case studies and exercises designed to demonstrate the sequence of processes involved in business planning and the associated issues. This allows you scope to explore and apply concepts in a supportive environment and build your understanding of the crucial interrelationship of the various aspects of a business plan. You will also have time to reflect on the process of constructing and analysing business plans. In the second part of the module, you will work in groups to produce an elementary business plan for a new venture.
