Study abroad opportunities

As the world of business and organisational activity becomes more global, international experience is increasingly important for managers. Study Abroad schemes offered as part of the MSc in Management programme provide an opportunity for you to gain further international experience as part of your MSc.

We know that employers very much appreciate the cross-cultural experience gained by students who take advantage of exchanges.

We have links with world-class partner institutions across Europe. Details of exchange programmes currently available for the MSc in Management are listed below.

WU Wien logoWirtschaftsuniversität Wien

  • Location: Vienna, Austria
  • Duration and timing: around three months in the summer.
    Students attend the International Summer University (ISU) in July, taking some taught courses, then complete a project internship in August.
  • Classes taught in English
  • Supervision and marking of the dissertation is undertaken by Lancaster staff
  • Language requirements: wherever possible, students should take the German course available through the Lancaster University Languages for All programme (for which an additional fee can be charged)

Copenhagen Business School logoCopenhagen Business School

  • Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Duration and timing: June to end of August
  • Taught courses, plus library-based summer project undertaken in Copenhagen
  • Supervision and marking of the dissertation is undertaken by Lancaster staff
  • Language requirements: classes are taught in English, so no additional language skills needed.

University of St Gallen logoUniversität St Gallen

  • Location: St Gallen, Switzerland
  • Duration and timing: October to December, immediately following completion of the Lancaster MSc in Management
  • St Gallen's International Business Programme (ISP) provides insights into European and global business, law, finance and economics, and includes intensive German language training
  • Usually one or two places
  • Graduation at normal time
  • Language requirements: classes are taught in English, so no additional language skills needed

Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics logoDouble degree with Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics

MSc Management students also have the option to enrol in a double Masters degree with Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics, part of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

After completing the full Masters programme at LUMS, selected students can study at Católica-Lisbon for an additional semester (September to January) and follow a specific academic study plan in Portugal within the School's Master of Science in Business Administration. 

To be eligible for this option students will need to achieve an average of 65% in their first term on the MSc at LUMS and the same average at the end of the spring term. More information on the double degree scheme.

Funding for European students

For UK and EU students, some of these exchange programmes – specifically those lasting 12 weeks or longer – qualify for some grant support under the EU's Erasmus programme. The amount available varies each year, depending on the overall sum allocated to Lancaster University by the EU.
