Assessment

The MSc in Finance, MSc in Accounting and Financial Management, and MSc in Financial Analysis are composed of a total of 180 credits. The taught element of these programmes comprises 8 taught modules, each of which is weighted at 15 credits each (120 credits in total - 2/3 of the degree). The largest single element in each programme is the dissertation which is completed during the summer term. The dissertation is weighted at 60 credits (1/3 of the total degree).

Assessment methods

The modules which make up the programmes are assessed using a variety of different methods, enabling you to demonstrate your capability in different ways – for example, working both individually and in teams. Most modules use more than one type of assessment. Methods used include formal examinations (normally held in January and March/April), individual coursework essays and assignments, group-based reports and case study analysis. For details of the assessment methods for individual modules, please see the module descriptions listed under programme content.

In order for the taught course component of the degree to be passed and to progress to the MSc dissertation, you must obtain an overall average mark of at least 50% on the eight taught modules taken together with no more than three modules in the 40%-49% mark range. A minimum pass mark of 50% in the dissertation is also required for the award of the MSc degree.
