NTU logoA new undergraduate student exchange programme has recently been agreed which will offer students from Lancaster University Management School the chance to spend a semester at the prestigious College of Management, National Taiwan University. The first small group of students will change places in 2008.

NTU campusLUMS already has a very wide range of exchange partners in many countries, including the USA, Canada, China, France, Germany and Italy, but the programme with NTU is its first with a top institution in Taiwan.

Students can take courses in a range of subjects, including Management, Accounting, Quantitative Methods and Economics in both institutions, all of which are verified for compatibility with the course they would have taken at home. In NTU, the courses are taught in the medium of English, thus making them accessible to a wide audience.

Because this is an exchange agreement, students earn credits for the course units they take and these count towards the award of the degree at their home University. This makes it a very attractive opportunity for students – a chance to experience education and life in another country, but within the normal time frame of the degree programme.

NTU campus is right at the city centre of Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan and one of the most vibrant and multicultural cities in East Asia. Surrounding the campus, there are lots of restaurants, cafés, bars and bookshops, and the fast-and-clean metro system and many bus lines efficiently connect to other parts of the city. In Taipei, the traditional Chinese culture is well merged with other cultures, e.g. Japanese and Western. Moreover, NTU offers FREE Chinese language course to exchange students.

Associate Dean for Undergraduate Study, Dr Mike Wright, said:

"We are delighted to be working with colleagues in NTU to develop this new exchange programme.

"We are sure that it will be attractive to well qualified students in both countries who will have the benefit of studying in two institutions and experiencing the different styles of teaching and learning in each.

"This is the first exchange programme we have developed in Taiwan and we are delighted that this has helped us to strengthen our relationship with such a high quality institution.”
