Sunday Times: 'Bonuses are tricky for teachers'

Colin Green, lecturer in the Department of Economics, has written a comment piece for the Sunday Times on public-sector wage deals and performance-realted pay (PRP). "With PRP, the advantage is the alignment of motivation for both employer and employee. That's fine when it's an estate agent rewarded by how many properties he sells. But when you think of teaching, it is more complex. If you focus on one output - say pupils' test scores - that might lead to the neglect of other areas, such as the pastoral role or commitment to a wider educational approach," writes Colin.
