Hong Kong Distinguished Professor appointment
Published 12 February 2008
Professor Peter Pope of the Department of Accounting and Finance and Director of the International Centre for Research in Accounting, has been appointed as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). CUHK is one of the top universities in Hong Kong and a major centre for accounting and finance research in south east Asia.
Professor Pope’s visit was hosted by the Center for Institutions and Governance, a research centre focussing on corporate governance issues in Asia and China. Under the direction of Professor TJ Wong, the Center’s research programme draws on the fields of accounting, economics and finance to examine the roles of the legal and institutional environment in shaping the behaviour of companies and their agents.
Professor Pope visited CUHK in January 2008 where he presented a research seminar, a PhD workshop and held many face-to-face meetings with PhD students and faculty members, providing advice on their research work.
Professor Pope is no stranger to Hong Kong, having provided advice for a number of years to the HK UGC on the establishment of the Hong Kong Research Assessment process in the mid-1990s. This link has continued and recently he served as the Deputy Convener of the Business Studies and Economics Panel in the 2006 Hong Kong RAE.
Professor Pope’s contribution to accounting and finance research and the UK academic profession was recently recognised with the award of Distinguished Academic Award (2007), by the British Accounting Association (BAA).
