Chinese officials benefit from another successful LCMC training programme

Lancaster China Management Centre (LCMC) was pleased to welcome in early December another group of senior Chinese officials for a management development programme organised in collaboration with the China Youth Centre for International Exchange (CYCIE).
The officials from across China benefited from an intensive 5-day course, intended to provide them with an introduction to UK government structures and administrative systems, an insight into areas such as HRM and performance appraisal, and to UK initiatives to improve access to education, training and useful employment for young people.
Professor Sue Cox, Dean of Lancaster University Management School, welcomed the group to LUMS and spoke of the history and continuing importance of links between the University and China.

Delegation leader, Mr Wu Guomin, welcomed by Professor Sue Cox, Professor Alasdair MacBean and Lancashire County Council Chairman, Mr Alan Whittaker.
The group began their week with an introduction to the course, and an overview of how politics and administration operate in both the UK and China, given by Course Director and Acting Director of the Lancaster China Management Centre, Professor Alasdair MacBean. This set the scene for the week, and highlighted the interactive aims of the course: encouraging the group to consider the information conveyed through a range of course sessions, and feeding back into these insights and comparisons from their own experience and understanding of workings in China.
The course drew on the expertise of a range of speakers, including LUMS and Lancaster University lecturers and professionals from outside institutions. The knowledge gained from these sessions was enriched by visits to Manchester and Lancaster City Councils, and also to Lancashire County Council, providing insights into working practices and more detail on government policy in action.
The chance to engage informally in discussion with Chinese students at LUMS also proved to be a valuable element of the weeks’ activities, and experiences of shopping and eating out locally were enjoyed by the group. The week ended on a high note with a Chinese banquet involving the course delegates and organisation team, as well as local China Centre contacts interested in engaging with the group.
Feedback from the Chinese officials was very positive, with delegation leader, Mr Wu Guomin, expressing his thanks and appreciation to LUMS and the LCMC for the quality of the course and the value of the knowledge gained and relationships built through the process.
