Lancaster graduates come together in Asia, with spectacular attendance in Beijing!
Published 22 April 2009
March and April have been busy months for alumni reunions in Asia, with events taking place in Taiwan, Japan, Korea and China. Around 100 alumni attended a very special event in Beijing, marking the re-launch of the Beijing Alumni Group.
Taipei
In March, Helen O’Donnell, LUMS International Officer, met with alumni in Taipei for an informal evening reunion:

"The job market is tough right now for graduates in Taiwan, as it is elsewhere during these difficult economic times, which makes the choice of what, when and where to undertake university study even more significant.
"All of the Lancaster graduates attending the March alumni event have continued to make huge efforts to pursue their career goals, citing their time spent as overseas students at Lancaster as rewarding and valuable. They were very pleased to hear the news about LUMS’s recent achievements, including the consistently high performance in the FT MBA world rankings, which will help to strengthen the Lancaster brand in Taiwan."
One of Lancaster’s alumni, Caroline Tsai (MA Cultural Studies, 2006), is now working for the British Council in Taipei and her role is to organise UK alumni events and UK education promotion. Lancaster graduates based in Taiwan who would like to get more involved can contact Caroline at alumni@britishcouncil.org.tw.
Tokyo & Seoul
Oliver Westall, Director of The Lancaster full-time MBA, met with alumni in Tokyo & Seoul during a visit in late March and early April.
Charlie Lee (MSc Advanced Marketing Management, 2005), co-ordinator of the informal University Alumni Group in Korea, commented on the value of the Seoul reunion:
“This reunion dinner was really successful for getting to know each other, including new graduates and also inviting some foreign alumni who have been staying in Korea. We could find out why we still feel Lancastrian identities even now we are back in Korea. Finally we have been the bond in the Lancaster University Korean Alumni Network and this will be absolutely helpful for our future careers."

Shanghai
Professor David Brown, LUMS Professor and Director of the Lancaster China Management Centre, jointly hosted two reunions in Beijing and in Shanghai. The Shanghai event, organised by Shanghai alumni co-ordinator Katty Zhao (MSc Management, 2002) was an enjoyable evening for the wide range of alumni attending, combining a presentation given by Professor Brown with informal socialising and networking.
Beijing
Around 100 Lancaster University alumni met in Beijing on 11th April for one of our most successful reunions ever! The event was a special occasion to mark a re-launch of the Beijing Alumni Group, with new energy and enthusiasm for engaging and helping alumni in Beijing. Special thanks are due to the co-ordinating group, and particularly to Lisa Deng (MBA, 2004) whose efforts were key to the day’s success. A report of the event can be accessed here:
