Dr Wendy Beekes, of Lancaster's Department of Accounting and Finance, has been awarded £91,245 from the Leverhulme Trust to undertake a project on ‘Corporate governance, disclosure policies and the timeliness of price discovery’.

The research will assess the benefits of improved corporate governance to investors in listed companies in terms of transparency and disclosure, and to firms through the cost of finance and the availability of investment opportunities.

Corporate governance has been central to investor concerns in recent times and many countries have established guidelines on what constitutes good practice. However, the benefits of corporate governance so far have been difficult to find consistently in prior research. This study will offer new insights into the impact of corporate governance using unique data and research methods.
