US award for Peter Checkland

The USA's Systems Engineering Honor Society has made a special award to Professor Peter Checkland for his unique and outstanding contribution to the field of systems engineering.
Peter has been made one of the four founding members of the Society's Omega Alpha Association.
The citation states that Peter Checkland “is unique and outstanding as a researcher, practitioner, and pioneer in the field of systems engineering. He was the first to conceive, develop, and employ a rigorous, system-theoretic method for the investigation and resolution of complex, or “messy” real-world organizational problems.
“Today known universally as Soft Systems Methodology, or simply SSM, it is synonymous with Peter Checkland. SSM has been accepted, taught, and practiced worldwide, thanks to Peter’s increasing dedication and effectiveness, not only as a researcher and practitioner, but also as an author, teacher, and international lecturer of distinction. Peter has changed the way the world thinks about systems, and about systems engineering too.”
