Professors David Brown and Alasdair MacBean, with Eric See-To from LUMS, contributed papers to this year's highly successful Chinese Economic Association (Europe) and CEA UK Conference, held at University College, Dublin on 23-24 July.

Emeritus Professor Alasdair MacBean, of the Lancaster China Management Centre, said: "Each Chinese Economic Association conference that I have attended has been better than the previous one. This year’s conference was outstanding. The speakers giving the plenary speeches were among the best scholars in the field and many of the papers given in the specialised parallel meetings that followed were excellent. The hospitality extended by University College Dublin was excellent and I am sure that all participants found the Conference a worthwhile and enjoyable occasion".

The Keynote Lecture was given by Nicholas Lardy, one of America’s best known commentators on China’s economic growth. He is a Senior Fellow of the Peterson Institute in Washington DC, a former Fellow of the Brookings Institute and before that a Professor at the University of Washington. He is the author of several widely read books on China and many articles. The conclusion of his speech was that China has been the first major economy to emerge from the recession and is likely to be the first to converge on its long term growth path with a more balanced and sustainable pattern.

Both Professors David Brown and Alasdair MacBean of the Lancaster China Management Centre contributed papers: David Brown, Qi Wang and Eric See-To, “ Developing China’s SMEs: Insights into ICT policy initiatives” and Alasdair MacBean, “Prospects for China’s environmental industries”.
