The LSIS (Learning and Skills Improvement Service) Research Centre, has been granted a funded extension until March 2010 to complete the fourth consecutive year of Practitioner Research into leadership issues within the UK Learning and Skills Sector.

Margaret Collinson took over from Professor David Collinson as Research Director of the programme in August. Between 2006 and 2009 the LSIS research programme (formerly the Centre for Excellence in Leadership) has published 60 practitioner research reports in 12 edited volumes as well as 20 HE reports, all on leadershiprelated issues. Many of the HE reports were based on research conducted at LUMS. The extension awarded over £97k to the Management School (to lead and co‐ordinate the research programme) and over £240K (to fund the practitioner research projects).

In August and September 2009 a national tender was conducted which stimulated a very large response of over 70 research bids. This tender has resulted in the funding of 12 practitioner research projects from organisations and individuals across the Learning and Skills Sector. In October the new cohort of researchers attended a highly successful research workshop at Lancaster House Hotel, which: introduced the research programme and its primary objectives; outlined previous research and ideas; and facilitated researchers’ awareness of research methods and theories of leadership.
