Professsor Adam Letchford (Management Science) has been awarded funding by the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cambridge to organise a research programme in polynomial optimisation.

This is an inter-disciplinary topic, drawing on several branches of mathematics, and having applications in operational research, statistics, computer science, engineering and the physical sciences.

The four-week programme, which will include a workshop, tutorials with distinguished speakers, talks, networking events and research workshops on sub-topics, will be co-organised by Jean B. Lasserre (Laboratory of Analysis and Architecture of Systems, Toulouse) and Markus Schweighofer (Universität Konstanz). The workshop is due to take place in 2013.
