LUMS welcomes All-China Youth Federation for Management Development Programme

The Lancaster China Management Centre (LCMC) recently hosted another group of senior Chinese Officials from the All-China Youth Federation for a Management Development programme at LUMS.

The group, comprising of ten officials from different regions in China with interests in public administration and the provision of youth services in the UK, spent nine days at Lancaster University Management School in September 2011.

Delegates at the LUMS programmeThe intensive management development course, organised by the LUMS International Office and directed by Prof David Brown, included sessions about government structures in the UK, performance appraisal, management strategy in the public sector, public sector reform and e-governance. The group also experienced lively, interactive sessions with representatives from Lancashire’s Youth Offending Team and Cumbria Young Farmers Association.

The programme of lectures was complimented by organisational visits to Lancaster City Council, Lancashire Young Peoples Service and a specialist local vocational training college, Warrington Collegiate. One highlight was the visit to Lancashire County Council, where the group were able to meet with the Council Chairman, Geoffrey Roper.

Mr Meng Kunlong, the leader of the delegation, reported that the group had thoroughly enjoyed their time at LUMS and had gained many important insights into the provision of youth services in the UK public sector, which he stated would influence the delegates upon their return to China.
