Professor Lucas Introna and Dr Niall Hayes of the Department of Organisation, Work and Technology, in collaboration with Dr Edgar Whitley of the London School of Economics (LSE), have been awarded £215,000 of funding from the Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning (FDTL) to research 'grey' plagiarism amongst overseas students studying business and management.

Their bid was one of approximately 30 successful bids out of almost 180 applications submitted to FDTL. The research project will be entitled: Plagiarism, Computers and Values: Understanding Plagiarism Among International Business and Management Postgraduate Students

The project will be led by Lancaster University Management School and will be carried out over a three-year period. The project will identify and develop approaches to assessment that address the perception of plagiarism by overseas students, as well as forms of plagiarism that emerge from the use of information technology and digital sources in the writing process. It will provide well-researched guidelines for understanding and addressing the phenomenon of what we term ‘grey’ plagiarism amongst overseas students studying in the areas of business and management.
