Dr Niall Hayes, Programme Director of the MSc IT, Management and Organisational Change (ITMOC), and Professor Lucas Introna spent two weeks in Guangzhou in September.

They were invited to visit by three of the city's top universities. Primarily they were there as part of their UK government-funded project, which seeks to better understand the differences in the teaching, studying and assessment practices between the UK and China.

This research led them to undertake a series of interviews with students at the Foreign Studies University, at Sun-Yat Sen University and finally at South China University of Technology.

Dr Hayes and Professor Introna also met with staff who teach undergraduate modules, reviewed their assessment practices, and were able to attend a number of different undergraduate lectures in Engineering, Commerce and Computing.

Not only will they pass on their findings to the UK Government, but their research will also feed into ITMOC’s ITO 10 module. This module seeks to assist international students and students returning to study adjust to studying on a UK postgraduate programme.

As part of their trip they were asked to give presentations at Sun-Yat Sen and the Foreign Studies University. The rooms were full at both presentations. Staff and students responded positively, asking many questions after the presentation. The pictures show Dr Niall Hayes and Professor Lucas Introna giving the presentation at Guangzhou University of Foreign Studies.

Many thanks to Prof essor Hong Zhong from Gwanzhao University of Foreign Studies for the photographs.
