A new SSM website and forum has been launched on Soft Systems Methodology. SSM is the renowned action-research methodology developed by Peter Checkland and colleagues at Lancaster. The new site provides a forum for practitioners to write about their own experience of using SSM to solve real-world problems.

Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) was developed at Lancaster University by Peter Checkland and colleagues in what was then the Systems Department. The Management Science Department resulted from the merger of the Systems and Operational Research departments and is now the home of SSM.

Typing ‘soft systems methodology’ into Google produces about 3 million hits, so we have every reason to suppose that SSM is in use all around the world.

The department of Management Science recently held a Checkland Colloquium at Lancaster, in which the audience came from many places to hear Peter speak and to hear others talk about their experience of using SSM.

We’d very much like to hear your experience of using SSM, so we’ve set up a forum to enable you to tell us. This is also a chance to learn from others, to understand the benefits and to discuss problems that you’ve faced.

Please take a look at the forum and use it to create on online SSM community.
