China UK Challenge logoOn 30 October, his Excellency Minister Counselor Lirong Zhang of the Chinese Embassy in London and the Lord Mayor of York officially launched this year’s China – UK Entrepreneurship Challenge in an event at York University.

Lancaster, York and UCL are the three key university partners in the UK, working closely with the China Innovation and Development Association (CIDA), Chongqing University and other key players in China to deliver this year’s business planning competition.

Professor David Brown, Director of the Lancaster China Management Centre, spoke during the launch about the importance of the competition for building and promoting China – UK relations and cooperation. Professor Brown said that, by 2020, the investment in innovation in China will far exceed the investment of EU countries, and that the potential for China-UK cooperation is huge.

The competition is expanding its scope this year, to include more partners. Professor Richard Harrison, Dean of Queen’s University Management School, attended the launch and expressed interest to join the organization team. A number of high profile institutions in China have also confirmed their participation.

The competition will be split into two strands, one for existing businesses and one for students. The competing teams have the opportunity to win a share of more than £9,000 in prize money in the final and grand final. Lancaster will host the semi-final event in April and the UK final will be in London next summer.

If you have a business idea for the UK and China markets, why not enter the competition! For full details, see http://www.chinaukchallenge.com/
