Lancaster University Management School has launched a series of employability workshops aimed at developing the careers of Thai students studying at the School.

The workshops are intended to raise awareness of the excellent links the LUMS Careers, Alumni and Employer Relations team has forged with several prominent employers in Thailand. This was a result of several visits to leading companies in Bangkok, which took place as part of a wider LUMS visit to Thailand in January 2012.

The opening workshop focused on the experiences of recent LUMS graduate, Napat Makduangkaew (MSc Human Resources and Consulting, 2011). Napat, who capitalised on the LUMS Careers Team's links with employers in Thailand, received five job offers after graduating from LUMS. During the workshop, she shared advice and techniques with current Thai students, covering issues including: the application process, interview techniques and negotiating salary with employers in Thailand.

Following the success of this first workshop, a series of employability workshops for Thai students will run during the next academic year.

Head of LUMS Careers, Alumni and Employer Relations team, Louise Briggs said: “We attract an excellent calibre of students from Thailand to study at LUMS and are able to link them with employers in Thailand, such as Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Bangkok Bank, while they are studying at Lancaster. We will continue to expand our network of employers in Thailand and our knowledge about the job market, to ensure we provide our students the best advice possible.”

The events were organised jointly by the LUMS Careers, Alumni and Employer Relations team and the LUMS International Office.
