Dr. Sven F. Crone of the Lancaster Centre for Forecasting will present a keynote speech at the 2009 UK KDD Data Mining conference held by the British Computer Society (BCS) in Salford, UK.
His presentation will outline new findings on Data Mining corporate datasets in credit scoring, direct marketing and customer relationship management with imbalanced class distributions, taken from joint research with Dr. Steve Finlay and Dr. Didier Soopramanien. Their research has shown, that a simple oversampling of the minority class (e.g. those defaulting on a loan or reacting to a mass mailing) often leads to increased accuracy across most established data mining methods. Related findings have also been presented as a keynote speech at the SAS M2008 conference in Las Vegas, NV, USA, and the 2008 Conference of the Belgian Association for quantitative Marketing Research (BAQMAR) in Ghent, Belgium.
